Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa
Overview
The Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) Resident Visa is New Zealand's main points-based residence pathway for skilled workers. You need a skilled job or job offer with an accredited employer and at least 6 skilled resident points from occupational registration, qualifications, or income — plus NZ work experience if you are short of 6 points. After submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) and receiving an invitation, you can apply for residence.
Eligibility Requirements
- Be aged 55 or younger when you apply
- Have a skilled job or job offer with an Immigration New Zealand accredited employer
- Score at least 6 skilled resident points (registration, qualification, or income, plus NZ work experience if needed)
- Meet English language requirements
- Meet health and character requirements
- Submit an Expression of Interest and be invited to apply
